Ships propel themselves through while up to 8 paired, electric railroad engines keep ship in middle of lock chamber with cables through capstan drives.

Honestly, trying to make lemonade out of lemons. I overexposed the detail of the rails and cog drive rail for the Gatun Lock mules as they go between the cruise ship (small blue stripe and white in lower right) and the control building.

This was taken on slide film and scanned. It is of a boat in Panama on the Caribbean side. I am partial to it because the boat is my favorite color.
