Action Shots
This was the final circuit of this four mile race at the Middleburg Spring Races. I was trying to blur the background while freezing the horses and jockeys. I didn't quite get the freezing I had hoped for, but I still like the feeling of movement in the result. What do you think, and any suggestions for shutter settings?

Maybe not a 'perfect' shot, but it cetainly converys a sense of speed and action
Definatly something that you should perservere and prctice with, as there is a fantastic image in there to be captured

I've found that when you're attempting the "panning" technique (which freezes your subject and blurs the background), a slightly slower shutter speed works best (1/30 to 1/50 depending on your lens length seems to work for me). You also need to use focus tracking, catch your subject, swivel at the waist and hit the button...don't forget to follow through with the swivel. Sometimes a rotating head tripod helps if you can't hand hold a semi slow shutter. By the way, these are some of the toughest shots to get right...this was a great try!
