Monochrome version of a waiting stack of crystal goblets from the veranda of a restaurant close by Ponte Rialto (Rialto Bridge) Venice, Italy. This tends to bring out the clarity of the crystal bulbs. The crowd in the background is a phalanx of photographers poised along the bank.

Color version of a waiting stack of crystal goblets from the veranda of a restaurant close by Ponte Rialto (Rialto Bridge) Venice, Italy. This tends to imply a gray creaminess to the crystal bulbs. The crowd in the background is a phalanx of photographers poised along the bank.

Before I was able to make this picture, I was hiking for 45 minutes, with a 150m (50ft) height difference.
On this shot you're looking over the south area of Lake Garda, with Garda (the village) in the middle

Was amazed at the many growth clusters of plants growing in the crevices of the marble stones of the pontes (bridges) and buildings throughout Venice, Italy.

Many buildings have been remodeled over the centuries. Here a doorway with marble frame has been filled with red bricks to frame a window, flower boxes, and black iron security grating.

Practically every building on the 67 islands of Venice is sinking into the saturated, silty soils. The X's and single bars are the end caps of post-tension tendons, which keep the house, its walls, and its floors held together.

Canal level view of overhanging balcony along Venice, Italy, canal. Many details begin with carved gargoyle on canal level archway keystone and marble column capstones. Was surprised at the cracked and missing stucco sections on exterior walls which revealed the brick and stone with mortar construction.

Was learning the capabilities of my new Sony Alpha58, when on a night walking tour in Venice, near the university. This is a neighborhood plaza, common area, near the local church and the local cistern access.

This is an in camera HDR type process, which gave results better than my novice efforts.

Thinking of the cartoon series, "Gargoyles" and movie, "Hunchback of Notre Dame", this night shot made me think of gargoyles as living beings perched between heaven and earth to rescue mankind from itself. This was taken with a Sony Alpha58 DSLR, during a pre-cruise night walk near the University of Venice and Basilica Maria d' Salut, Basilica of Praise to Saint Mary, while trying to learn the capabilities of a new tech-toy. Found the in camera HDR process could produce interesting low light results.
