SpaceX launches the DSCOVR satellite. The project was initially dreamed up by Al Gore (to send a satellite to the first La Grange point and then send back images of Earth), but then improved to include actual science!

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carries satellites from Launch Complex 40 in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The name comes from my viewing location for the launch, the Banana River. Exposure time was 176 seconds, ISO100 at aperture f/9. Lens was a Tamron 16-28mm f/2.8 @ 16mm. Shot in bulb mode with a remote release, so the shutter opened as the rocket started to fire and then closed when I was fairly confident it was going to be near the edge of the frame. (March 1, 2015)
