How To Capture A Celebrity...Or Not. by

Posted in Anything Goes (Almost)

That title grabbed your attention, didn't it. Lol! How does one capture a celebrity.? Well, it depends really on who the celeb is and whether they're an " A-Lister" or they're further down the food chain. Also how much abuse are you willing to take? Some do have anger management issues. A famous rapper married to a reality personality punching out a paparazzo is one prime example!

Anyways, now, that I've gotten your attention, this little blurb isn't really about how to capture a celeb. Do you really want to sell your soul to a paparazzi demon of sorts.? Methinks, not.
As I write this, my thought process has been revolving about how to attract other photographers into our midst. Wouldn't it be great to have a Colby Brown or a Trey Ratcliff give us a once over and then a do over and with a final deep in-depth look see and leave a comment: " Great group! You have real talent within your group of photographers. Some, stand out even. Keep doing what you're doing!".
Sigh...one can hope....one can dream.
Why does it have to be a dream? We can make it reality. We DO have a great group and we DO have real talent within our midst...STAND OUT talent!
So, yes, let us attract the Scott Kelbys, the Thomas Hawks, the Bryant Eslavas. You ask:" How do we get them to even notice us?". There are several ways to go about this but stalking is a punishable crime with jail time. I'm not ready to be the girlfriend of my cell mate, Big Bertha. Not ever! Not.Ever.Never.Ever. What are some other ways to accomplish this feat. Best way is to garner their attention is to follow them on any of the social media sites. Instagram is a good example. Follow and leave a comment praising their work. Be respectful and treat them courteously. Ask them for tips and pointers. Get them interested enough in you to say: " Let me have a look at what you've done.". Now, I know that some of you are saying:" That's not my thing." and " Is it really necessary to do that?" or even :" Why does it have to a famous person? " . The answer is : " Of course, not!" We just want to attract attention to our group in order to gain new members. Whether it is via word of mouth or this top notch website, we, as a collective, on the whole, want to make some noise....a lot of noise but the good kind of noise! We're here and we're here to stay! We're not going away!

I'm hoping that a company who deals mainly with photographers gives us some free merchandise for us to test in the field and then, we write a review on their products. It doesn't have to be Canon, Nikon, but it does have to happen.
Muy importanté! Yeah... We can run with the Big Dogs! .
One day...one day.
We can do this being making sure that our standards are constantly being met. . Setting the bar high and raising it...on a continual basis! Another way is going to trade shows , striking up a barter, so to speak. Asking to do beta testing for prototypes.
Becoming members of outside photography groups. The networking that happens in these groups...A-MAZING! Think of the potential!
Like I said, these are some of the ideas rolling around in my head.

Stay the course.

just got to read this, great write-up!

consistency is the key to get companies to notice your work, I believed in that....having a good attitude and positive personality - never say " I can't" :) it is always...what can I do to make it better ;)

always pushing myself further to achieve the goals.

being a beta tester myself...i'll have to say - being supportive/positive of other photographers and building a warm relationship are just as important as honing your skills and knowledge in the creative/artistic world of photography.

I met Joel Grimes, attended his many seminars - one thing about him - he is always friendly... never the proud-i'm-the-smarter-than-you-guy.

and keep shooting - you're correct on this - be consistent :)
