Mudflats created by seasonally draining and drying parts of the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. The entire area is carefully managed to balance the local environment and maintain the massive diversity of species found in the refuge. This shot is a combination of 21 individual shots taken at 50mm, shot at 1/50, ISO100 at f/11 for maximum sharpness.

This was taken in Feb, 2014 in the last of the dismal snowfall. We are hoping for much greater snowfall in California next winter. Made for an easy shoot though.

Seagulls are called the scavengers of the skies around here, but there is a certain delicate beauty in their strong will to survive. This guy was just taking a little break before heading back out to "scavenge" for his dinner.

Great Egret having a quiet moment at the beach. Taken in Sarasota at Lido Key, FL. Original shot in color and titled "Contemplation", then converted to B/W (for the challenge). The title is a reference to another photographer who made news last year with a b/w version of a photograph he had already sold in color ... Sound off in the comments if you get it!

I took my first ride ever on an NYC subway this last summer. I've always heard they can be dark and gritty, so it guided my edit of the image. Honestly, my experience wasn't too bad. I think the stereotype is probably based on a few bad times rather than the norm. Either way, it sure beat the hell out of walking!

We got to Promontory Point just before they were putting the engines away for the day. Before they back them up though, they ride in by the visitor center for photo opportunities.

While taking photos and video of some ranchers working cattle, the wife of this cowboy requested this particular shot. It's different, but I think it works.

Had my shot all set up and this guy walks up and gets right in my frame...so, I made the best of it :)

On trip a while back to Southern California, I found my way to the "infamous" Sunken City in San Pedro. A good portion of the entire city slipped off of the edge of the cliff and was reclaimed by the ocean. It is fenced and guarded, but with the right timing and directions, there are ways to get in, which I did. Eerie cool place, and a must see for anyone who is into "Urban Expoloration".

I converted this using the red filter option which increased the contrast by making all the reds nearly white and darkening the blue of the car significantly
