Solitary windmill stands post over the recently harvested grain field at dawn. Bright highlights and long dark shadows show the rolling Colorado prairies bring out the terrain relief under the fluffy layers of monsoon cumulus clouds exacerbated by the massive smoke and ash from forest fires across the Western States.

Ubiquitous high power electric lines span many miles across the eastern Colorado prairies to bring electricity to the burgeoning populations and isolated farmsteads. Low angle post dawn sunlight creates dimensionality with long highlighted ridge lines and deep shadows.

Found an area of Colorado high prairie with rolling hills and infinite grain fields and used the post dawn light and shadows across the scene to develop the depth of the terrain. Monsoon moisture drawn off the Gulf of Baja and smoke from Western state forest fires help form the cumulus cloud banks.

Caught a fly having his breakfast at the center of an early morning sunflower. The field is just outside the north edge of Denver International Airport. Processed using Skylum Luminar 2018 RAW Develop and Golden Hour presets.

Found an east sloping field of ripening sunflowers in the earlier morning sun. Due to heavy forest fire overcast had to correct RAW files for red haze tint.

Three (near macro) of three in a zoom series of this bloom.

The high contrast and razor sharp edges of LoDo (LOwer DOwntown) buildings and their shadows caught my eye while walking to Coors Field for a Colorado Rockies game.

The sun sets over the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains and is reflected in the high rise building glass over the LoDo (LOwer DOwntown) section of Denver as viewed from an upper deck at Coors Field.
I took this for the brilliant sunset reflection and the urban environment of lampposts and construction cranes.

I never noticed how much beauty there is in the common grass that grows in any field. I knelt down and shot this image on Thursday, where I park when shooting photos of herons from my kayak. I had loaded up and was ready to drive away, when it occurred to me to take a photo of the grass where I park and unload the kayak. I particularly like how the 'grass bokeh' turned out on the right side of the photo. Any comments most welcome!

I had heard about the famous Dalles Mountain Ranch. People from miles around come to shoot this old car. I knew that if I wanted a shot, I had to act fast. The flowers had already reached their peak. I got up at 5 and drove 2 hrs to this place. It was totally worth losing a little sleep over. When I see stuff like this, I often wonder about its story. I wonder who the people were, and how the car happen to be left here, and why. No matter what the story is, though our photographs, the memories live on.

This is one shot from a senior portrait shoot. She wanted to have her field hockey stick in one of the shots so we went on the field near the scoreboard and this is the result. My favorite shot of the session.

Let those old chains lie another year,
The harvest season's over
Grass and grit won't do no harm
Just watch it with the mower

Just posting this for fun. I shot this maybe 20 years ago (Film, probably a Canon EOS100)and had forgotten all about it. Unfortunately cannot find the negative so this is a flat bed scan of a 6"x4" enprint (hence the softness and poor contrast)
I tried to do what I could to salvage it and this is the best I can get. Loved it at the time and wish I could go back and reshoot it with my current gear. Oh well... (sad face)

Was shooting some candid work for my son while he was training some athletes. This shot intrigued me because it appeared he was coming out of a hole in the ground.

Was taking photos of a conditioning clinic, when I caught my dear friend doing "field work" for an upcoming tournament. Volunteer's work is never done.

Yellow fields of rape seed in Derbyshire (UK) with a lone tree in the background, spring, and a cloudy but bright day
Thanks

I spotted this rape field a few weeks back and noticing the tractor marks I knew I wanted to come back when there was a clear blue sky
Well I just so happened to pass again today, and the rape is starting to ripen and the blaze of yellow is rapidly dwindling, so I thought I best get what I could while I still can
