Looking for advice: when using long exposure to shoot waterfalls, rushing water etc, where do you place the focus? Even when shooting f22 with center focus, many of my shots look out of focus. How do I nail focus on these? Thanks for the help!

Taken from a tower window overlooking Niagara Falls. The lights are Buffalo NY and the bright high building is a Casino. The moon was peaking through a cloud.

Capturing the sun reflecting off the mist from Niagara Falls. This was a chilly winter sunset.

Winter 2015 in Niagara Falls, NY. There is no snow to be seen, and the temperatures in the 50s F. But we saw a beautiful rainbow.

I was out walking this week with my husband and my son, at the trail we go to to show Orson the cows (which he loves) and on the way back from seeing the cows Orson and I were playing and I had turned my camera off but was wearing it, and chatting with my son about leaves and rocks and the snail shell Todd had just found for him. I looked up and saw Todd had bent down a small maple tree (they are like rubber) and before I could even think he had let it go and when the tree snapped up all the leaves stayed behind and hung in the air for a split second. It was amazing to see and would have been an incredible shot. Needless to say I missed it. But to humor me after I chided him for doing something awesome and not warning me first he saw there was one leaf left and pulled the tree down again so I could catch the single leaf before it fell. He looked as we walked for another tree small enough to bend, but it was a once in a lifetime shot and I missed it. But the image is sharp in my mind and Orson giggled and giggled.
Missed the shot, but had a moment.

A UNESCO World Heritage site, Plitvička Jezera National Park is undoubtedly one of the most stunning collection of lakes and waterfalls in the world. The waters flowing over the limestone and chalk have, over thousands of years, deposited travertine barriers, creating natural dams which in turn have created a series of beautiful lakes, caves and waterfalls. From a photographic standpoint, it is like being let loose in a candy store; more photo opportunities than you could handle in a week, let alone a day.

We need this rain so badly right now and I think I have never been so happy to see it rain so hard. This is a photo of rain falling on concrete, if that gives scale to just how hard it was coming down.

Triple Falls~DuPont State Forest~North Carolina
If you saw the first "Hunger Games" movie, this is the waterfall that Katniss ran across. The state of North Carolina enacted a ban climbing up to the falls because people were trying to recreate that same stunt. I guess people don't use common sense since she ran across a board with a harness on, anything else would just be blatantly stupid.

You have to earn this view - it's quite a hike to make your way to this feature, starting at around 9K elevation, and going up from there. Rocky Mountain National Park.

A gorgeous waterfall in the Tallulah Gorge, Georgia. It's a long set of steps to get down, and a nasty climb back up them.

Not my strongest shot - the highlights are blown out a bit, and the mix of shade and sun threw off the color balance.

The gorgeous Alberta Falls, just outside of Estes Park in the Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. It's about a half hour to 45 minute hike over fairly easy terrain, and it's so worth it.
