A Great Blue Heron takes to flight, unwrapping its huge wings. (six feet from tip to tip)

A great blue heron appears to be deep in thought. Actually he was fishing and now is contemplating the wisdom in staying so close to an approaching kayak. (me) The wind blew me silently closer until I was quite close.

Nesting time on some of our isolated pebble beaches. Tern colonies are roped off but with a long lens some good shots, and not just Terns.

A Great Blue Heron gets a bit too close to a Red-Winged Blackbird's nest, and the blackbird quickly chases the much larger bird away. Keep in mind the wingspan of a red-winged blackbird is just over a foot, and the Great Blue Heron's is six feet! I think the blackbird managed to hitch a ride for a moment!

Osprey actually migrate every year to warmer climates where the water does not freeze over. Spring brings them back to the same nests year after year.

This happened so fast that it caught me by surprise .

Can't remember if I posted this before or one similar.

I am blessed with the ability to open my left eye for wide vision alongside my camera while right eye through the viewfinder yields a binocular tunnel on bird in flight. This is one of several I will post seeking detailed feedback on editing of live action to compensate for blown out heavy haze of sea level tropical midday sun.

Shot handheld on a ferry

I sat and watched the male chase the female off all week until this particular morning she decided to have a go back

Shot this heron a couple of hours ago. Didn't know which of the seven clicks to use, so I used them all to show its flight path.
