Male Ringed Plover, difficult to photograph as they are very well camoflaged. You get near, they fly! About 6" long.

Panama City Beach Florida at St. Andrews State Park

Shot on my Canon G16 compact when out on a dog walk. Shot into the light with a bit of underexposure to bring out the spray and white horses on the wave tops. Another reminder that the 'best camera' is whatever one you have with you at the time.

Really liked the colours of green shoe, yellow garbage can and the blue ocean.

Storm drain at one of my favorite beaches...an interesting view of man and nature.

It had just rained before I took this shot, and this brief moment happened - the sky itself became a rainbow as the sun dipped below the horizon.

A very low tide day...had to walk out quite far on precarious rock outcroppings to get anything worthwhile...but it was worth it in the end.

Beautiful sunset this evening...although "blue hour" was socked in with a bank of gray clouds, so that was a bit of a bummer. Still managed a few good shots before that happened, though.

This was one of those shots that just sort of happened. I was waiting for the sunset and saw "the man on the lonely rock" and took a few snaps.

Another year comes to an end...and yet another one begins...

This was such a fun find as I went down to my usual pier for the sunset, wondering how I could make it more interesting. Low and behold a sand artist had been there, meking designs in the sand that day. I felt so blessed. He left his hashtag #FRPART. I looked him up. He apparently usually does this in Santa Cruz. He wrote me back and said that his father's ashes had been scattered at Pismo Beach and that he stops by once in awhile to pay homage to him. I thought it was very special.

The Pismo Beach Pier is officially lit with the annual Holiday Tree of lights...Christmas is on its way!

It was a lovely, warm Central California Coastal evening to share the sunset with fellow photographers and a commercial film crew. The light morphed the sky from beginning to end. It was fantastic to anticipate the Christmas tree lighting as the sunset grew darker.

Smooth as Leizu's silk it was that day,
the day he emerged from the painted sea.

Sunsets are beautiful, but I love catching interesting additions, like this surfer and the rays of sunlight coming through the pier.

An epic sunset in Pismo Beach, California this evening.

I pass this table on my way home almost every evening, and tonight I decided to stop and snap a shot of it as the sun was going down.

As I stood there watching the sunset, I was reminded that env though life can be full of dark clouds, there are still beautiful moments to see and treasure.

This image was a long time coming for me. I had traveled to the beach several times this last summer, in hopes of an epic sunset. But each time I went, I was greeted with overcast skies or fog. I was beginning to think I was cursed with bad weather. Like an ugly cloud that followed me where ever I went. This time however, I was lucky enough to witness the most beautiful sunset I could have ever imagined. It even looked like the rocks had wings!! Sometimes, persistence pays off.

Fire in the sky, ocean at your feet and a book in your hands...this is California.

We had scouted out earlier in the day, where we wanted to set up for sunset. I had been practicing my long exposure for the waves, so I would be able to catch them just right as the sun was setting. It was not very easy. Only being 5'3, I had a hard time standing with the waves coming at me. I even got chased away a couple of times. But, I knew if I wanted to get my shot, I had to stand my ground, and take what the ocean had to give.

I love the little downtown area of Pismo Beach. I was out searching for "benches", and happened upon this little guy enjoying one...so I made him part of the scene.

I was playing around with the new settings in the quick menu in my new camera body when it came in the mail, this shot was in one of my test sets, but I loved it instantly, only thing I changed was to boost the saturation by the smallest increment... Wierd the things you end up loving accidentally with photography!

Sometimes the strangest things are just waiting on the beach. Man made or ocean created, the beach will never disappoint.

Great Egret having a quiet moment at the beach. Taken in Sarasota at Lido Key, FL. Original shot in color and titled "Contemplation", then converted to B/W (for the challenge). The title is a reference to another photographer who made news last year with a b/w version of a photograph he had already sold in color ... Sound off in the comments if you get it!

Had my shot all set up and this guy walks up and gets right in my frame...so, I made the best of it :)

Sometimes shooting in the opposite direction of the sunset yields nice results.

Another shot with the Holga 120 on Kodak Portra 400 B/W. The Holga 120 only shoots at 1/100 at either f/11 or f/8. This was shot at f/11 with a ND 8 filter held over the lens.

Yesterday I had my first paid photo shoot, and couldn't be happier with the results. My client was ecstatic with the results as well! Along with photos, I also made my client a short video. All in all it was a very successful photo shoot! With no professional schooling under my belt, I am very proud of my work here!

My first contribution! I am an amateur food photographer, but sometimes I take random landscape photos. Here is one of the sunset in Sissi, Crete.

It was road trip time and I headed towards the west side of the state. To see Lake Michigan in all her splendiferous glory. I was not disappointed! There's a saying in Michigan: "There's no sunset like a Lake Michigan sunset!" I wanted to see what the fuss was all about. Mere words cannot describe a sunset over Lake Michigan. I wished I could have stayed longer. I'll be back.

Another long exposure at Spyglass Beach in Pismo Beach, CA. I find the trick in getting a good long expo of the ocean is to really find strong foreground elements and to attempt to hit the shutter just as a wave is beginning to roll in - makes for more interesting water swirls around the rocks.
