Rosy Johnson
I live in the Isle of Man where we have some beautiful flora & fauna. I love to catch images that please me and bring joy to others. I like to experiment with my Nikon DSLR and my iPhone camera. I do like photo editing but some of my best photos are natural captures.

Eggs to Order - Four Seasons Hotel
travlndon
Breakfast buffet chef prepares eggs to order. Difficult to set white balance since the foreground porcelain was under florescent overhead lights and the infrared heat lamps were highlighting the chef's face; decided to correct for porcelain white and let the highlights fall naturally on his face.

From Dusk 'Til Dawn at the Texas State Capitol
Patrick Anderson
A pre-dawn scene on Congress Street in Austin, Texas. The Capitol Dome looms in the background with an ominous red glow, while the streets are lit only by the glow of headlights. Red and green traffic lights, and an array of white "christmas" lights gently dot the canvas of this quiet, peaceful scene.

A Change of Seasons
David Verschueren
So, I have a couple seniors who are wanting "Winter Themes" in some of their portraits, if possible. The reason for "if possible" is that we live in the desert, and even on the rare occasion that it snows, it usually doesn't stick around for more than a couple hours. So I looked up various methods to try and convert seasons using filters and actions in Photoshop. I was able to create a scene that seems like the first snowfall in late autumn, early winter, with just a hint of color still visible on the trees. There is also a hint of snow flurries using a Photoshop Snow brush that I downloaded online.

Molson School
Jeff Morris
This building is now a museum. I went to school here for first grade and half way through second grade. This school served the families from a few small farming communities and the surrounding farms in the Okanogan highlands in north central Washington. From the time it was built in the early 1900s through the early 1960s it had 1st through 12th. The upper floors of the building had become unstable, so through the 60s, it was only 1st through 6th grades and we were not allowed to go any higher than the second floor. From about 1969 through sometime in the 1980s, it sat vacant. Then the Okanogan Highlands Historical Society opened it up as a museum. The classrooms are set up as if waiting for the kids to start class. There is a small gift shop in the library/music room and the gymnasium in the basement houses historical farm equipment from around the area.

Bury Me At Sea
Patrick Anderson
Self portrait conceptualizing an ideal afterlife drifting the high seas remembering and reliving the best of times with my loved ones ...
Execution of this shot was pretty straightforward ... set the self-timer on the camera and then got into position, ducking out of the frame after 1 second of a 2 second exposure ... Except the wind was bad enough that I couldn't actually hear the shutter open, so I just had to count ...

A quick re-edit of a composite made SUPER lazily early this year while my son slept in my lap. This series was taken just after he learned he could run.
It could use some more work at a later date. Blending and such... But it makes me smile so I thought for no other reason that made it worth sharing.

Patrick Anderson
Mudflats created by seasonally draining and drying parts of the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. The entire area is carefully managed to balance the local environment and maintain the massive diversity of species found in the refuge. This shot is a combination of 21 individual shots taken at 50mm, shot at 1/50, ISO100 at f/11 for maximum sharpness.

Deliberation
Patrick Anderson
Great Egret having a quiet moment at the beach. Taken in Sarasota at Lido Key, FL. Original shot in color and titled "Contemplation", then converted to B/W (for the challenge). The title is a reference to another photographer who made news last year with a b/w version of a photograph he had already sold in color ... Sound off in the comments if you get it!

One more with the Holga 120 on Kodak Portra 400 B/W. The Holga 120 only shoots at 1/100 at either f/11 or f/8. This was shot at f/11 with a ND 8 filter held over the lens. Cropped in post for composition.

Joanna
Patrick Anderson
Those of you who know me, you know I'm not really a b/w guy. Don't have much experience with it, and I'm usually trying to show off nature's colors so I haven't explored b/w much ... But I couldn't resist this challenge. Here's an up & coming singer, destined to become a STAR ... She currently lives in Austin and is chasing her dream. I caught up with her in Puerto Rico and snapped some images of her during open mic night at a local watering hole ...

DSCOVR the Universe

SpaceX launches the DSCOVR satellite. The project was initially dreamed up by Al Gore (to send a satellite to the first La Grange point and then send back images of Earth), but then improved to include actual science!

Banana Launch
Patrick Anderson
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carries satellites from Launch Complex 40 in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The name comes from my viewing location for the launch, the Banana River. Exposure time was 176 seconds, ISO100 at aperture f/9. Lens was a Tamron 16-28mm f/2.8 @ 16mm. Shot in bulb mode with a remote release, so the shutter opened as the rocket started to fire and then closed when I was fairly confident it was going to be near the edge of the frame. (March 1, 2015)

The Ride Home
Patrick Anderson
Shot after sunset from a rooftop in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The rooftop wall kept getting in my shot since I wanted to keep it wide, so I had to balance my camera at the edge in order to get this shot. It was a long 15 seconds!

Sunbathing
Patrick Anderson
Anhinga drying its wings in the early morning sun. These birds are fascinating to watch. Most of their body is below water level when they swim, with only their head and neck sticking out of the water. They eat from the bottom of a lake or pond, so they completely submerge themselves only to pop up a few yards away. But best of all, when they're done they hop up onto a branch and spread their wings with their back to the sun. Unlike other birds, anhingas lack oil glands to protect their feathers from the water, and they cannot fly with their wings fully saturated.

Four Corners, or ... How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Edge, or ... Not Suitable For Framing

Intentionally breaking the "rules" of composition here and putting all of the action at the edges of the frame. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but it's different and I like that. Hope you do too.

Twice-Cooked Pork
Patrick Anderson
They cook it twice, but you can unfortunately only eat it once ... This pork is slow roasted in Indian spices and then deep fried. Absolutely delicious. Our host, Chef Plato, tops each one with a kind of curry-based sauce. It's sitting on a polenta cracker.

Mango Sphere
Patrick Anderson
A mouthwatering mango sphere made with mango, rosemary biscuit and unicorn magic*. The chef's love to freak everyone out and tell them it's an egg yolk at first. One tip, DO NOT BITE the mango sphere. The juices inside are held together by a thin layer of unicorn magic, so it bursts in your mouth as soon as you break the seal. If you pop the whole thing in your mouth and break it, you get a refreshing burst of mango. If you bite it, you get a messy shirt.
*Chef mumbo jumbo replaced with words I understand.
